Sacred Art Journeys

Currently Being Offered as Nationwide Tele-Class
(Check calendar for in-person classes in Maryland)

Self Portrait 7-06-05 by Linda Kolker

We do not make art -- we are art. Everything that moves through us to the picture plane, canvas, sketchbook, etc. is already in us. The artist’s mark becomes the messenger of worlds seen and unseen. Personal, mythical and archetypal images are within us. By paying attention to the present moment, in each moment, images and energies flow more freely from within our core onto the paper. There is also less opportunity for the inner art critic to distort the process, because we are focused on the breath, the body, and what is happening right now.

Through guided visualizations, breath work, and subtle movement you will access your core energy and learn to put your attention into the present moment. Gentle instruction on mark making opens up possibilities for exploration and supports you as you make marks on paper.

This exploration is for newcomers as well as seasoned artists who want to try something new and get more intimate with their work. Drawing skills are not required. These skills naturally emerge through this process because we cultivate a practice of drawing from the present moment.

Yes, you can take art lessons over the telephone! Something mysterious happens when the class comes together and collectively focuses on the present moment –- suddenly there is permission and safety in which to explore and gain trust of your creative instincts. The drawings just flow. Also, you will enjoy the freedom that happens when you are in a “virtual” studio with others, without seeing what others are doing, or having them see your work. This takes the edge off comparing your work with others and there is no distraction to take you out of the present moment. There will be an opportunity to share your work, if you choose to, by scanning or taking digital photos of your work and posting to the TOSA website.

If you have the slightest wish to explore this class with us, honor that! Come join us, and open yourself to the river of creativity that flows abundantly in the present moment!
